Overview
The aim of this document is to draw up a budget which takes into account the basic needs.
- These needs are:
* buy a passport * order plane ticket * find an accommodation * travel in the city * eat
Passport
Abroad, it is not necessary to provide a tax stamp; it is possible to directly discharge taxes of chancellery to the consulate (rate A or B according to whether the applicant is registered or not with the register of the French established out of France):

| * delivered to an adult person and bearing inscription of a child less than 15 years old (period of 5 years validity). The passport is freely renewed one time for the 5 years remaining (or for the period left since the 15th child anniversary). | ||

- You can pay by:
* cash * check * money order * bank card, near certain consulates only
Plane ticket
The plane ticket is the most important expenditure. It represents more than half of the budget.
- You have to make a choice between two types of companies and two types of flight:
* Direct flight around 2500€ (only on regular companies) * Flight with scales between 500€ (low cost companies) - 1000€ (regular companies)
These prices are indicated for a simple flight from Paris (CDG or Orly airport) to New York (JFK airport). We advise you to plan your trip during the low season, because the ticket prices are lower.

Hotel and House
Once of the spot, you will have to find a roof.
The price of a night in a hotel in New York is between 20€ and 100€ (for a one star hotel).
A room: around $500/month (around 385€/month) A studio: between $500 and $1000/month (around 775€/month)
Be careful in who rent you the accommodation. There are many problems reported on blogs and forums on this subject. Many agents don’t have license to rent or sale.
Our good addresses
Metro and bus card
The big apple is an enormous city in which you will have to move to find a job or to go to work. With this intention, you would travel by the taxi, by bus or by the subway.
A 30-Days unlimited ride MetroCard cost $76 (around 60€), reduced fare $38. Good for unlimited subway and local bus rides until midnight, 30 days from day of first use. This card is insured against loss when purchased at a vending machine with a credit or debit/ATM card.
Food expenditures
It’s very easy to find cheap food in New York City. The food expenditures represent a small part of the budget, but this is the most difficult to estimate.
Consolidated budget
For the first month you will have to envisage a budget around 2800€ (average prices toke into account).
- This amount is divided in:
* Passport 60€ * Plane Ticket 1500€ * House 550€ * Transport 60€ * + food expenditures
Then for next months, you have to envisage a budget around 750€.
NB: we don’t take into account extra expenditure.
